The trip to ECHO
The trip to ECHO was a life changing experience. Located in North Fort Myers, it moved me to thinking of maybe getting involved in some type of environmentally friendly work. I learned so much in such a little bit of time. The 50 acres of land house so many different ecosystems and is here to show people how to live sustainable life and to stimulate affordable agriculture in poverty stricken countries. The overall experience was lovely and very informative.
Something that really stuck in my head during the fieldtrip was the fact that every seventeen seconds a child dies from bad water. This wouldn’t happen if every nation had the ability to purify water effectively, there is hope for this though because of the moringa plant ; one seed will purify 95% of a bottle of water . This plant can significantly change the world, it is also full of nutrients ( 7 times the vitamin C of oranges , 3 times the potassium of bananas , 3times iron of spinach per gram ) I feel that with this plant many of the worlds hunger issues can be solved.
Another plant that stood out to me at ECHO was the Miracle fruit. This fruit looks like a small berry but has the ability to make things to sweet up to an hour or more after it is consumed. This is special because usually things that are healthy for you do not taste very good and the miracle fruit will make that difference.
I was completely fascinated with irrigation techniques used at ECHO. The way that irrigation pump is used can radically Improve a family’s life by efficiently delivering water to crops without the use of electricity. I plan on going back to ECHO and getting a better understanding of what they do there !
